more than i thought i ever would

i sincerely apologise for not being more attentive to the blog scene, it has been a crazy/busy/wonderful time

again, credit to enny who gave me so much helpful information about Canberra and my new place of employment

the most delightful man in the world is away at the moment, and i miss him more than ever

to provide a brief run down

-i arrived in Canberra in mid January after an absolutely unbelievable and fabulous holiday and a very busy week returning to Perth to finish up work and have all of my worldly belongings condensed into boxes and delivered to the ACT
-once in Canberra i had two weeks in which to relax, however i managed to attract the worlds worst flu and ended up acquainting with the local doctors surgery much earlier than i had planned.
-i made it to my first day of work, albeit with a rather nasty cough and sounding somewhat like an out of work porn star
-the first 3 months of work were interesting, the person who was originally going to be my boss moved on in the organisation and the manager i ended up with was absolutely horrendous
-fortunately the incompetent bitch from hell resigned and i am now rather blessed with an absolutely fabulous manager
-in the mean time i have been offered a transfer to another section, i have to approach the new fabulous boss to see if she will transfer me, it is all rather complicated!
-i have seen some amazing things, met some fabulous people and all in all enjoyed every last minute of immersing myself in the national capital

tonight i looked back on previous posts

last year i deleted all of my original posts because i just wasn't that person anymore

now i look back on the posts i made late last year (after the delete) and i remember how excited and happy i was, that feeling is still with me and growing

it is amazing how things can turn around in such a short time - words just can't describe how happy i am right now

for anyone that has ever considered moving to Canberra, do it. you will not be disappointed.

i hope to make more of an effort with blogging now i am settled, truth be told i have never been that committed in the past

i can't believe how much has happened, i never believed it would happen

so many things, so little time

so, i'm pretty much living out of a suitcase now

the vast majority of my life is in around 20 boxes - packing is freaking hard work! but I am glad it is done.

Friday sees that start of my cross south eastern Australia holiday (Sydney-Adelaide-Melbourne-Canberra for those playing at home) and a few places in between which is super exciting, can't wait to spend time cruising around with the most delightful man (who is incredibly patient with my insane bitch moments) rather than thinking about work/packing/work/packing/work/packing all the time!

I have been doing some 'Christmas experimenting' if you will, over the last few years and have come to the conclusion that Christmas is much better spent away from the normal abode. 3 out of the last 4 Christmas periods I have spent away, one in Melbourne with my sister, and the other two in regional NSW with my parents. Last year the old people returned to WA so I stayed home. Without a doubt it is a much more pleasant experience, if you get the opportunity, to go somewhere different. I don’t know that I can explain it very well, but all I can say is try it. Hopefully you find it as enjoyable as I do. I think perhaps the main thing is that you relax more. This year I am going back to Melbourne for Christmas and I can’t wait! Just me, the sis, her husband and my boy - sitting back, some drinks, some fabulous food and no stress!

I have some special shout outs that I just can’t miss, in no particular As I didn’t fancy a full blown red really the choices were very slim.

Anyway, overcoming difficulties I decided that the solution was to open one of the many bottles or rose I have obtained over the last 12 months. I actually managed to get a whole lot of rose from the cellar door for a ridiculously cheap price and while it is reasonable to drink ‘neat’ I primarily purchased it for drinking as sangria last summer (summer ran out before the rose did).

Alas I didn’t have the full suite of sangria ingredients available tonight so I opted for what I would like to be known from now on as my ‘lazy sangria’. I’ve never been this lame with putting sangria together before, but oh my, it was some seriously tasty business that I will be re-visiting in the near future (more than likely tomorrow)!

What ju need (for one glass)

3 ice cubes (stfu, the wine was warm, ice didn’t water it down that much – at least the god damn drink was cold)

2/3 large red wine glass of rose

Slurp of brandy

Larger slurp of cointreau

Tiny sprinkle of dark muscavado sugar

How ju make it

Put ice cubes in glass (really, get over the ‘can’t put ice in wine’ hang-ups)

Pour brandy slurp on ice cubes

Fill glass to somewhere near the top with rose

Pour cointreau in glass

Sprinkle muscavado over surface

What you end up with is a seriously tasty concoction that will get you pissed like there is no tomorrow.

Really, I can’t recommend this enough, give it a try!

Refer yesterday’s title

I was one of those people who vehemently opposed ebay. It just never made sense to me, and from the demonstrations I had been given by many an eager acquaintance I just couldn’t see how it would be fun. All that waiting around and wondering if the seller was reliable and being outbid – too much hassle! Additionally, when told how cheap things were the stinge within did some searching. Alas, none of the things I may have wanted to buy (namely books about food) really seemed to be cheap enough (once you add the postage costs) to warrant all the fuss with ebay.

Skip ahead 18 months or so and I decide to do a little bit of searching again. Turns out there are some much better deals around than I remember from my previous explorations. So I sign up and make some bids, and win some and it’s great – books that can’t even be purchased from amazon are cheap *and* available (note: cheap and available isn’t just for whores). The first lady I purchase from happens to live nearby and she offers that I pick the books up from her rather than pay postage! Fantastic! Two $40 books for $15 – ebay is great! Before I even get home she has left feedback about what a great purchaser I am. So the ebay thing is looking up – fortunately I am not the get addicted to ebay type – so all is looking good and a bid on some more books, they arrive, I cheer. It’s a loving relationship.

There is however one thing I don’t understand (and I can’t be bothered reading the whole ebay site for some half arsed explanation). Why is it when my duties as the seller are complete (ie, I have made full payment) that the seller doesn’t leave feedback. Why do they get to wait until I leave feedback for them? I think that’s intimidation! Surely when payment is received the seller should be writing ridiculously over the top gushing feedback comments, rather than waiting to see what I write about them first…

I can understand that perhaps it’s to deter wayward purchasers receiving good feedback and then writing untrue nasty things about the seller, but isn’t the point of feedback that it is supposed to indicate whether or not the seller or purchaser is reliable? It all seems to perhaps have turned into a situation where everyone is too scared to leave neutral or negative feedback, even f they should have, due to fear that they may in fact receive bad feedback, tarnishing their ebay record forever!
